The South Wellington, Cassidy, and North Oyster areas south of Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, rely predominantly on groundwater supply for domestic, agricultural and industrial use. The Cassidy Aquifer Report provides details on four aquifers:
The Upper Cassidy (aquifer 161) and Lower Cassidy (aquifer 160), which are made up of unconsolidated materials (sand and gravel).
The South Wellington (aquifer 165) and Cassidy‐Nanaimo Airport (aquifer 964), which are made up of fractured sedimentary bedrock (mainly sandstone and shale).
The report is very informative with maps and information on the vulnerabilities of these aquifers.
